Not only did ISAPS have record-breaking attendance at this year’s conference in Miami, they also elected a new president, Dirk Richter MD, PhD.
Dr. Richter has been involved with ISAPS since 2008, when he served as the Assistant Treasurer. He has held many positions since then, his most recent being the President-Elect.
Dr. Richter is a clinical professor of plastic surgery at the University Bonn and the Director and Chief of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Dreifaltigkeits-Hospital in Wesseling, Germany. He received his speciality training in Brazil and with Professor Neven Olivari in Germany.
He primarily specializes in face and periorbital rejuvenation with revision cosmetic surgery, treating patients with endocrine orbitopathy resulting from Graves’ disease and body-contouring surgery after massive weight loss. Dr. Richter has presented at many international aesthetic surgery conferences, published many scientific articles and written several books.
He hopes to digitalize ISAPS, lower the cost of membership fees, create a new loyalty program and strengthen the global alliance of ISAPS. Dr. Richter is looking forward to the future of ISAPS and the next conference, which will be held in Vienna in 2020.
Largest Meeting Ever!
The most recent ISAPS Congress, held in Miami, exceeded all expectations. Attendance stretched from 98 countries, over 3,000 registrants, over 400 free papers and 160 exhibitors. This was the largest meeting ever held for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in the world. To say it was record-breaking would be an understatement.
The conference was held in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Some of the featured activities of the conference were: a full-day of cadaver dissections, 64 master classes, ISAPS Business School, ISAPS skin care, residents and fellow’s forum, daily free paper sessions with over 400 presenters and not to mention our first Women Plastic Surgeons’ Symposium. The event consisted of an opening ceremony on Thursday night, followed by a welcome reception, keynote speaker and a beach party on Saturday night at the famous Nikki Beach.
After the success of this year’s congress, ISAPS is anticipating an even bigger and better one in 2020 when they bring the conference to Vienna! ISAPS will be celebrating their 50th anniversary, so expect great things.
